Our Name

Hansell or Handsel- In Scotland is a first gift or offering intended to bring good luck to something new or to a new start. The first Monday of the New Year is known as Hansell/Handsel  Monday and it was common for people to exchange gifts on this day. Our business derives its name from the Scottish saying,"Well Hanselled", meaning that something is not new and has had a previous owner ie second-hand.

If you wish to order a book that we do not have in stock or if you would like us to find an elusive title for you; we will do this free of charge. For that elusive book we will locate it for you at the best possible price and you are under no obligation to order it.

As a result of the USA's Homeland Security increasing its anti-terrorism measures, some packages going from the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland) to the USA may be subject to additional delays.
